Sony Corporation announced portable solid-state (SSD) drives SL-M and SL-C, made in a rugged housing.
New items comply with the IP67 standard, which means protection from moisture and dust. The devices can withstand shocks and falls from a height of three meters. The solutions are housed in an aluminum case with bright yellow elements.
The drives use a symmetrical USB Type-C port for connection. The USB 3.1 Gen 2 specification provides theoretical throughput of up to 10 Gbps.
The SL-M family includes devices with increased performance. The declared speed of reading and writing information reaches 1000 MB/s.
The SL-C series includes standard models. They provide data reading speeds of up to 540 MB/s, and information can be written at speeds of up to 520 MB/s.
Both families have versions with a capacity of 500 GB, as well as 1 TB and 2 TB. It speaks of support for encryption using the AES algorithm with a key length of 256 bits.
Sales of new products will begin this fall. Sony will reveal prices later.
