Vivaldi 4.0 browser for desktop and Android released

The Norwegian company Vivaldi Technologies has released a new version of the Vivaldi 4.0 browser for desktop and Android. The browser is based on the open source Chromium and the developers declare a fundamental refusal to collect user data and monetize it. Vivaldi builds are prepared for Linux, Windows, Android and macOS. For past releases, the project distributes the source code for changes to Chromium under an open license. The implementation of the Vivaldi interface is written in JavaScript, available in source code, but under a proprietary license.

The browser is developed by the former developers of Opera Presto and aims to create a customizable and functional browser that preserves the privacy of user data. Key features include a tracking and ad blocker, note, history and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, end-to-end encrypted sync, tab grouping mode, sidebar, highly customizable configurator, horizontal tab display mode, and test mode. built-in email client, RSS reader and calendar. The browser interface is written in JavaScript using the React library, the Node.js framework, Browserify, and various prebuilt NPM modules.

In the new release:

  • A built-in translator has been added that allows you to translate entire web pages both automatically and manually. Currently, more than 50 languages ​​are supported, in the future the number of supported languages ​​is planned to be increased to 100. The engine of the translation system is developed by Lingvanex, while the entire cloud part of the translator is hosted on Vivaldi's own servers located in Iceland. Such a solution allows you to get rid of surveillance by large companies offering automatic translation.
