The experimental machine is built on the basis of the Lincoln MKZ model. She received a Designated Driver remote control system, the interaction with which is carried out in a virtual reality (VR) environment.

The platform involves the use of the Samsung Gear VR headset and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G smartphone, which acts as a terminal for data transmission via the fifth generation cellular network.

During a demonstration of the capabilities of an unusual car, drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. remotely controlled the car in virtual reality, showing the passage of the world-famous Goodwood Hillclimb track.

It should be noted that the ultra-fast 5G network of Vodafone, one of the world's largest mobile operators, was used to transmit information.

β€œThe driver, who is located at another point in Goodwood, controls the autonomous car through VR glasses. Vodafone's 5G network provides data transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G and ultra-low latency, which is very important in a situation where instant response is critical,” the project participants note.
