The creators of Chivalry 2 discussed the Xbox Series X and PS5, and at the same time criticized Google Stadia

At the Chivalry 2 press preview, WCCFTech journalists were able to talk with Torn Banner Studios President and Lead Gameplay Designer Steve Piggott and Brand Director Alex Hayter. In addition to questions about the game, they discussed the upcoming generation of consoles.

As previously announced, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will have a built-in solid-state drive (SSD). This should reduce loading times in games to a minimum. And the developers of Chivalry 2 believe that the SSD will play a big role in open-world projects.

β€œI'm actually not sure how much has been said about the consoles, and I probably know more than the public, so... We're very happy with them. I think this is a definite step forward,” Piggott said. Later, he nevertheless supplemented his thoughts. β€œ[The value of an SSD] really depends on the type of game,” he said. β€œThere are games where [speed] won’t matter as much, but if your game is streaming or open world, it really matters.”

Alex Hayter added that although Chivalry 2 is announced only for PC, the studio is monitoring what is happening in the industry. β€œIt's interesting to see the direction that each of the publishers is taking, be it Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo […]. As industry enthusiasts and people who play a lot of games, we're excited to see what's next," he said.

Torn Banner Studios also spoke out about Google's cloud streaming service Stadia, which launched last November. According to Piggott, the service is not very interesting to developers because it has many technical problems. β€œIf there's any input lag, you'll notice it because in first-person shooters you're always tied to the controls,” he said. β€” […] How the game feels and responds to your actions is very important. If [the service] is good enough for a multiplayer first-person shooter, then I'm interested in it. Until then, I'm not interested, because those are the games I like to play."

Chivalry 2 was announced at E3 2019. This is a multiplayer session action game in a medieval setting. Players fight each other on fields and in cities. In the second part, cavalry attacks and large-scale sieges of castles are expected in battles for 64 users. The game will go on sale in 2020.
