Creators of Microsoft Flight Simulator: VR is a high priority for the project

Although virtual reality has been generating more buzz than usual lately, thanks to announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, there's another studio looking to incorporate VR into its big-budget game. In a recent interview with AVSIM, Microsoft Flight Simulator director Jorg Neumann said that virtual reality is given a very high priority when creating a civil aviation flight simulator. No Man's Sky looks great in VR, and the realistic game should benefit even more from this.

Mr. Neumann added that Asobo and himself have many years of experience in the field of virtual reality, and that they are working hard to get it right. He explained: “We want to find a good solution, for example by cutting off the cabin from the rest of the environment. Then you can move freely, and the world in the background won’t start flickering.”

During the interview, it was also confirmed that animals will be present in the game, and the team is working on adding trains and ships to the virtual world. Mr. Neumann also said that there will be different seasons, but it is necessary to provide for snow removal machines to work in winter. It looks like the developers are really delving into the simulation.

By the way, recently during a reporting conference with CD Projekt RED Senior Vice President Michal Andrzej Nowakowski asked, does he care that the launch recently presented shooter Half-Life: Alyx will reduce players' interest in the upcoming action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077. Let's remember: Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on April 16, and Half-Life: Alyx will debut sometime in March.

In response, the executive, pointing to the extremely modest adoption of virtual reality headsets compared to traditional PCs and consoles, reasonably said: “Virtual reality remains an extremely niche part of the gaming market, it is very, very small. It’s a very, very, very—and I might add a few more words, “very”—small niche.”

In fact, it’s quite strange to think that Half-Life: Alyx will be able to influence the sales of Cyberpunk 2077. Despite the army of fans, we are talking about an experimental project in many respects for a small part of the players. If a person does not yet have a VR headset, the opportunity to play Valve’s new creation will cost at least the cost of a good modern gaming console. And the costs for Cyberpunk 2077 are limited only by the cost of the game itself. Perhaps if both games were released in the same month there would be minimal impact, but that's not the case either. “The only reason I think Valve decided to actually bring this project to market is because they are already approaching the new gaming sector from a hardware perspective, and I guess they really plan to become influential pioneers in this region,” added Mr. Novakovsky.

Judging by the trailer and the screenshots presented, Half-Life: Alyx looks quite attractive, perhaps it will be the first truly breakthrough project for the virtual reality sector. However, for good graphics you will have to pay not only with the presence of a helmet, but also with a pretty good gaming PC: minimum system requirements include 12 GB RAM and GeForce GTX 1060.
