SpaceX launches 'rideshare' service for small satellite operators

So far, SpaceX has mainly focused on sending larger satellites into space or bulky cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station. The new program, called the SmallSat Rideshare Program, offers operators of tiny satellites more options when launching into orbit. They will not need to adapt to the launch of a large satellite or spacecraft. Instead, the Falcon 9 will carry several small satellites weighing between 330 pounds (150 kg) and 660 pounds (299 kg).

According to SpaceX, for a satellite weighing up to 330 pounds, the base launch cost is $2,25 million. Launching heavier satellites weighing up to 660 pounds will cost $4,5 million. In comparison, the American company Rocket Lab, which specializes in launching small satellites into space, charges from $5 to $6 million per flight.
