One of the project leaders, Marc Rogers, vice president of the information security company Okta, said that the group’s first priority will be to combat hacker attacks aimed at medical institutions, communication networks, and services that have become especially in demand after people around the world started working from home. In addition, the group will contact Internet providers to suppress phishing attacks, the organizers of which are trying to influence people using fear of coronavirus.

β€œI have never seen such a volume of phishing. I literally see phishing messages in every language known to man,” said Mr. Rogers, commenting on the current situation.

Currently, there are a large number of phishing campaigns, the organizers of which seek by any means to force recipients of letters to disclose confidential information, including account and payment data, by pointing them to fake websites controlled by attackers. Rogers noted that the combined team has already managed to eliminate a large-scale campaign of phishing emails, the organizers of which used software vulnerabilities to distribute malware.

There is no more detailed information about the intentions of the merged group yet. As for the management of the project, it is known that in addition to the British Rogers, its composition included two Americans and one Israeli.
