Spotify will launch in Russia this summer

In summer, the popular streaming service Spotify from Sweden will start working in Russia. This was reported by analysts of Sberbank CIB. It is important to note that they have been trying to launch the service in Russia since 2014, but only now it has become possible.

Spotify will launch in Russia this summer

It is noted that the cost of a subscription to Russian Spotify will be 150 rubles per month, while a subscription to similar services - Yandex.Music, Apple Music and Google Play Music - is 169 rubles per month. The BOOM service from Mail.Ru Group costs 149 rubles per month.

At the same time, the heads of the above-mentioned services believe that Spotify is not a direct competitor to Mail.Ru Group and others. Mail.Ru Group CEO Boris Dobrodeev said that the existing services are built into social networks, and therefore differ from the Swedish platform.

“This is a great service with good recommendations, but the music of VKontakte and BOOM is part of the social platforms within which users interact with each other and with artists,” he said.

At the same time, Yandex noted that they are waiting for the launch of the streaming service in Russia with great interest.

Note that there is already a Spotify app for Android with partial Russian localization. And the service itself has been operating since 2008 and is now available in 79 countries around the world. We also recall that in 2014 Spotify postponed the start of work for a year due to the lack of a partnership agreement with MTS. It was not possible to enter the Russian market in 2015 either. In addition, the company refused to open an office in Russia last year.
