Demand for smartphones in the EMEA market is declining

International Data Corporation (IDC) has summarized the results of a study of the smartphone market in the EMEA region (including Europe, including Russia, the Middle East and Africa) in the first quarter of this year.

It is reported that in the period from January to March inclusive, 83,7 million “smart” cellular devices were sold in this market. This is 3,3% less than the first quarter of last year.

If we consider exclusively the European region (Western, Central and Eastern Europe), then quarterly shipments of smartphones amounted to 53,5 million units. This is 2,7% less than the result for the first quarter of 2018, when deliveries amounted to 55,0 million units.

Samsung became the largest smartphone supplier in Europe at the end of the quarter. The South Korean giant shipped 15,7 million devices, occupying 29,5% of the market.

Huawei is in second place with 13,5 million units shipped and a 25,4% share. Apple rounds out the top three with 7,8 million units shipped. iPhone and 14,7% of the European market.
