A study conducted by IHS Markit suggests that the demand for smart watches on a global scale is steadily growing.
Experts assessed the volume of supplies of displays for "smart" watches. It is reported that in 2014 shipments of such screens did not exceed 10 million pieces. To be precise, sales were 9,4 million units.
In 2015, the market volume reached approximately 50 million units, and in 2016 it exceeded 70 million units. In 2017, shipments of displays for smart watches on a global scale were at the level of 100 million pieces.
Last year, the volume of the industry amounted to 149 million units, an increase of 42% compared to the previous year. Thus, as noted, in four years, the supply of displays for smart watches has risen by more than 15 times.
According to another analytics firm, Strategy Analytics, shipments of smartwatches globally reached 18,2 million units in the last quarter of last year. This is 56% more than the result of a year ago, when the market volume was estimated at 11,6 million units.
In 2018, approximately 45,0 million “smart watches” were sold worldwide.
Thus, IHS Markit statistics also take into account the supply of screens for smart bracelets and various fitness trackers.
