Ryzen 9 with integrated graphics Vega 12 or Vega 15 will appear among mobile AMD Renoir

AMD plans to introduce the first Ryzen 4000-series processors, mobile hybrid chips of the Renoir family, at the very beginning of next year. And if everything was more or less clear with the processor component - the chips will receive Zen 2 cores, then with integrated graphics everything is not so clear. However, details have now appeared on the Web regarding the integrated graphics that future APUs will receive. And we note right away that it will be graphics with the Vega architecture.

A well-known leaker with the pseudonym Komachi has published a list of Renoir processors, including Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 and even Ryzen 9 chips, as well as a number of Ryzen Pro-series models. It is assumed that the designations B10, B12 and the like indicate the configuration of the integrated graphics of these chips. That is, the number here indicates the number of computing units (Compute Units, CU) of the integrated graphics. For example, Ryzen 9 with "B12" graphics supposedly has 12 CUs.

Note that current AMD hybrid processors have integrated graphics with a maximum of 11 compute units. An increase in the number of CUs in the next generation will be facilitated by the transition to the 7nm process technology. It can also contribute to the increase in the clock frequency of integrated graphics while maintaining low power consumption, which is an extremely important parameter for mobile processors.

There are also suggestions that in addition to Vega 12, we can see more advanced “inserts”. As noted by a computer enthusiast with the pseudonym Locuza, if AMD releases Vega 13 integrated graphics, then Vega 15 may also appear. The thing is that in the Vega architecture for every 32 KB of instruction cache (L$) and 16 KB of constant cache (K $) can have up to three CUs. As a result, we can get either up to 12 (4 × 3) or up to 15 (5 × 3) computing units.

Of course, all the information presented above is just rumors at the moment. However, if it turns out to be true, then in the next generation of AMD hybrid processors we will again receive integrated Vega graphics (GCN5), and AMD will use the more modern Navi (RDNA) in integrated GPUs later. However, performance should improve significantly. If AMD uses even 12 CU and raises the frequencies, then the Renoir processor graphics will be able to confidently outperform the Intel Iris Plus G7 “embeds” in Ice Lake chips, and with 15 CU it may well conquer the discrete graphics of the GeForce MX250 level.
