US prepares new restrictions on Huawei

Senior officials from the administration of US President Donald Trump are preparing new measures aimed at limiting the global supply of chips to the Chinese company Huawei Technologies. This is reported by the Reuters news agency, citing a knowledgeable source.

US prepares new restrictions on Huawei

Under these changes, foreign companies that use US equipment to manufacture chips will be required to obtain a US license, which will or will not allow them to supply certain types of products to Huawei.

Since much of the chip-making equipment used around the world is based on US technology, the new restrictions would significantly increase US powers to control semiconductor exports, which trade experts say will irritate many US allies.

The report said that the decision was made at an official meeting of high-ranking US officials and representatives of various institutions, which took place today. Under it, certain foreign-made goods based on US-origin technology or software will be subject to US regulations.

At the moment, it is not known whether the US President will approve this proposal, since last month he spoke out against such measures. Representatives of the US Department of Commerce, which plays an important role in making such decisions, have not yet commented on this issue.
