β€œWe have an update regarding the launch of Star Wars Episode I: Racer. Unfortunately, we have just learned that the PlayStation 4 version of the game will need to be delayed until May 26th,” Aspyr Media announced.

The wording of the message hints that the decision to port Star Wars Episode I: Racer to PS4 did not belong to Aspyr Media. Be that as it may, the reasons for the two-week delay are not specified.

In addition, Aspyr Media assured that the version of Star Wars Episode I: Racer for Nintendo Switch will not suffer from the problems of the PS4 edition. The game's release on the hybrid console is still expected on May 12.

The re-release of Star Wars Episode I: Racer will offer a resolution upgraded to modern standards, controls adapted for PS4 and Nintendo Switch controllers, and a trophy system (PS4 only).

The remaster is also expected to feature two types of multiplayer: local (split-screen mode) will be available on both PS4 and Switch, and online will be exclusive to Nintendo’s hybrid console.

The original Star Wars Episode I: Racer was released in May 1999 on PC and Nintendo 64, and subsequently appeared on Game Boy Color and Sega Dreamcast. The initial release was timed to coincide with the premiere of the film β€œStar Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace."
