On November 15, Purism began sending out Librem-5 phones for mass production, codenamed Evergreen.
The mailing is divided into stages. Devices will be shipped to early customers first. Sending devices to later customers is planned for the 1st quarter of 2021.
Device Features haven't changed much. Among the latest changes it is worth noting larger battery up to 4500 mAh.
Evergreen is not the latest modification of the phone. At the end of 2021, a modification of Fir is planned, in which the main change will be a processor made using the 14 nm process technology, which will increase the energy efficiency of the device (comparison table of i.MX 8 processors in pdf).
The Librem-5 phone is made with an emphasis on security and privacy. The main feature of the phone is the 3 hardware switches: cellular, Wi-Fi + BlueTooth, camera + microphone.
The phone comes with the completely free PureOS operating system. The bootloader is not locked and allows you to install other Linux distributions or other operating systems. To fully use the device, it is not expected to be tied to any services.
