According to Recode, Anki's entire staff of just over 200 employees will be fired due to the closure. Within a week, each of the dismissed will receive a severance pay.

Reportedly, the reason for this was an unsuccessful funding round. According to Anki CEO Boris Softman, the deal with the investor fell through "at the last minute." Softman also noted the lack of interest in acquiring the Anki business from companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Comcast.
