The cost of the Russian analogue of Wikipedia was estimated at almost 2 billion rubles

The amount that the creation of a domestic analogue of Wikipedia will cost the Russian budget has become known. According to the draft federal budget for 2020 and the next two years, it is planned to allocate almost 1,7 billion rubles to the open joint-stock company “Scientific Publishing House “Big Russian Encyclopedia” (BRE) for the creation of a national Internet portal, which will be an alternative to Wikipedia.

In particular, in 2020, 684 million 466,6 thousand rubles will be allocated for the creation and operation of a national interactive encyclopedic portal, in 2021 - 833 million 529,7 thousand rubles, in 2022 - 169 million 94,3 thousand rubles .

This year, the BDT subsidy for the creation of the portal will amount to 302 million 213,8 thousand rubles. That is, the total cost of the project will be equal to 1 billion 989 million 304,4 thousand rubles.

The project started this year on July 1st. As Interfax reports with reference to BDT executive editor Sergei Kravets, it is planned to be completed on April 1, 2022.

The government order on the creation of a national portal was published at the end of August 2016. In this regard, rumors appeared about the authorities’ plans to block Wikipedia, which the government called “nonsense”, since the national encyclopedic portal will not become a competitor to Wikipedia, but is intended to solve larger-scale problems.
