The problem of a sudden surge of negative ratings on Steam is not new and is called "review attacks". This usually happens as a disapproving reaction of the players to certain actions of the game creators. Recent notable examples are waves of backlash against older Metro games due to withdrawal decisions from the shelves of Steam. At present, a similar situation exists with but this time it's the other way around.

At the moment, recent positive reviews about Unity have not been noticed and filtered out by a special Valve system that monitors such atypical activity. In theory, these positive reviews of Unity can be rejected, because not all recent reviews are related to the game itself. But maybe means fighting only negative opinions:
βAs described earlier, we call a rating attack when users post a lot of reviews in a short period of time in order to lower the game's rating. And we consider off-topic reviews to be those in which the arguments in no way affect the desire to buy this product. Therefore, such reviews should not count towards its ranking.β
Unity, as you might expect after a free giveaway, is currently experiencing a resurgence of interest. This project in the Assassin's Creed series at one time suffered from a terrible start, replete with technical problems (especially on PC, where, in addition, the system requirements of the new generation engine turned out to be extremely high). Because of this, Ubisoft stopped releasing new games in the series every year. Now that the major technical issues have long since been fixed and gaming PCs have become much more powerful, the project is considered undervalued. Yesterday, Ubisoft shut down the Unity servers for an hour to perform maintenance to increase cloud capabilities - there seems to be a strong surge of interest among old and new players.
