The assembly and command vessel of the Sea Launch floating cosmodrome arrived from the United States to Russia: it will be moored at the Slavyansk Ship Repair Plant (SRZ). RIA Novosti reports this, citing information received from representatives of the enterprise.
The process of transferring Sea Launch from the American port of Long Beach in California to the Slavyansky Shipyard in Primorye began at the end of February. The Sea Launch Commander vessel has now arrived in our country, and the sea launch platform is due to be delivered on March 29.
After the complex is relocated to the Far East, the Slavyansky Shipyard will begin repairing and reconstructing the floating cosmodrome.
Note that the Sea Launch project was developed back in the early 1990s. The idea was to create a floating rocket and space complex capable of providing the most favorable conditions for launch vehicles.
Currently, the complex belongs to S7 Group. In September 2016, S7 Group, within the framework of the International Congress IAC 2016 in Guadalajara (Mexico), announced the signing of a contract with the Sea Launch group of companies (PJSC RSC Energia), providing for the purchase of the rocket and space complex of the same name. In the coming years, S7 Group plans to resume launching activities of the platform.
