Sugon releases workstations with Chinese Hygon Dhyana chips based on AMD Zen

Chinese server and workstation OEM Sugon has begun selling systems based on Hygon Dhyana processors. These are the same Chinese x86-compatible processors that are built on the first generation Zen architecture and are released under license from AMD.

Recall that back in 2016, AMD and the investment division of the Chinese Academy of Sciences THATIC founded a joint venture Hygon to create consumer processors based on the Zen architecture. These chips are focused exclusively on the Chinese market. Under the agreement, AMD provided only its architecture, while the rest of the chip was developed in-house by the Chinese company.

First processors Hygon Dhyana appeared last year, but their characteristics were not specified, and they were used only in servers for organizations funded by the Chinese government. Now, apparently, chip production volumes have been increased, and Sugon was able to offer W330-H350 workstations based on Hygon Dhyana 3000 series processors.

Sugon W330-H350 workstations can be based on a quad- or octa-core processor with SMT support. In the first case, the clock frequency of the chip is 3,6 GHz, and in the second - 3,0 or 3,4 GHz, depending on the model. Unfortunately, these are all the official details about the consumer grade Hygon Dhyana chips.

However, a Weibo user posted a screenshot, allegedly taken on one of the Hugon Dhyana-based computers. Judging by these data, the eight-core Dhyana 3185 processor has 768 KB of L4 cache, 16 MB of L3 cache and 1000 MB of L2000 cache. That is, the cache memory configuration here is the same as in the eight-core Ryzen XNUMX and XNUMX series processors.

Returning to the Sugon W330-H350 workstations themselves, we note that they support up to 256 GB of RAM in four slots, that is, support for server memory modules is implemented here. Also, systems can be equipped with various 2,5- and 3,5-inch drives and have one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and two PCIe 3.0 x8 (work as x4 and x1). There are two gigabit network interfaces and many different ports and connectors. The graphics subsystem is based on professional NVIDIA Quadro adapters based on Pascal, Volta or Turing chips.
