Not so long ago, OtherSide Entertainment studio announced that Tencent will lead "the System Shock franchise into the future." The wording, apparently, means that the Chinese conglomerate became the publisher of the third part, since the rights to the brand owns nightdive studios. As for OtherSide, the studio is still involved in the development of the continuation of the series. The team made the announcement in a recent statement.

In May 2019, the head of the team, Warren Spector, said that they were looking for a new publisher, although the team still had enough money. The first rumors about the difficulties with the creation of System Shock 3 emerged in February 2020, and shortly after, OtherSide partnered with Tencent.
