Patience snapped: Rambler Group sued Mail.ru Group for illegal football broadcasts on Odnoklassniki

Rambler Group bought exclusive rights to broadcast the nuclear submarine back in April. The company instructed Roskomnadzor to block access to 15 pages that broadcast matches illegally.

But according to the PR director of Odnoklassniki, Sergei Tomilov, at the time the complaint was filed with Roskomnadzor, the page had already been blocked. According to him, Odnoklassniki cooperates with the largest copyright holders and is "always open to requests to block content that violates their rights."

“We were ready to settle the relationship out of court, as we had previously done with almost 500 sites that also illegally used content related to the English Premier League and held a meeting with representatives of the network,” рассказал director of media relations Rambler Group Alexander Dmitriev. “But after a large number of illegal broadcasts of matches were recorded in the Odnoklassniki public pages, and the network administration reported that it would take at least 24 hours to process our applications for blocking, we decided to apply to the Moscow City Court to protect our interests.”

In November 2018, Rambler Group and Mail.Ru Group signed an anti-piracy memorandum on the voluntary removal of links to pirated content from search engine results. Anti-piracy legislation allows the right holder and the infringer to resolve the problem out of court.
