The company told The Verge that the rule changes went into effect on Wednesday after questions about Musk's tweet began pouring in. Customers will now be able to return a vehicle within seven days of purchase (or after driving up to 1000 miles (1609 km)) for a full refund, regardless of whether they have been tested with the company. This is different from the previous clarification seen on the company's website up until Wednesday.

Tesla changes EV return policy after Elon Musk's controversial tweet

Musk tweeted on Wednesday that customers can return one of Tesla's electric vehicle models after seven days for a full refund, whether they were given a test drive opportunity or a vehicle demo.

This statement was contrary to Tesla's previous official return policy, which only extended the seven-day full refund policy to customers who "didn't test the vehicle."

But by the evening the return rules were changed. Tesla explained the belated change to The Verge by a delay in updating the site's style. So it is not clear whether Musk was in a hurry, or whether the company had to adapt to his statement.
