Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company intends to launch a self-driving taxi service in the United States as early as next year.
It is assumed that the owners of Tesla electric cars will be able to provide their cars to transport other people in autopilot mode. This will allow owners of electric vehicles to receive additional income.
Through the companion application, it will be possible to determine the circle of people who will be able to travel by car. It can be, say, only relatives, friends, work colleagues or any users.
In areas where the number of cars provided for service will be small, Tesla will bring its own cars to the streets. Tesla's fleet of robotic taxis is expected to reach one million electric vehicles over the next year.
Mr. Musk noted that Tesla's self-driving cars would be cheaper for customers than calling a taxi through services like Uber and Lyft.
True, the deployment of a robotaxis platform will require obtaining the necessary permits from regulatory authorities, and this can be problematic.
The head of Tesla also added that within two years the company could organize the production of electric cars designed exclusively for driving in autopilot mode: such cars will not have a steering wheel or pedals.
We also add that Tesla announced its own processor for autopilot systems. You can find out more about this in
