The Shanghai plant is Tesla's first production facility outside the US. It is expected to help the company increase sales and profits thanks to strong demand for electric vehicles in China. The start of mass production, however, coincided with a period of sharp slowdown in the Chinese auto market amid a trade war between the US and China. Nevertheless, it remains the world's largest car market.

The other day, Elon Musk announced Tesla's plans to build another Gigafactory, this time in the vicinity of Berlin. This plant will eventually be responsible for the production of Tesla cars in Europe, but, apparently, it will have to wait several years before its launch.
