Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog have announced the postponement of The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4. The new release date is May 29, 2020.

The post-apocalyptic action adventure The Last of Us Part II was due out on February 21, 2020. It was announced less than a month ago. But suddenly, the developers from Naughty Dog realized that they did not have time to create a quality project by the deadline. “On the other hand, in recent weeks, as we finalized the final episodes of our game, we gradually realized that we simply did not have time to bring the entire project to the level of quality that you are used to seeing in Naughty Dog games. We were faced with a simple choice: sacrifice elements of the game or stock up on time,” explained Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann.

Postponing the game for three months will allow the team to complete The Last of Us Part II in the form that Naughty Dog has been working towards for more than five years. In addition, it will positively affect the spirit of the developers and help to avoid the stress of working overtime. “We regret not being able to foresee how long it would take us to finish development - the size and scope of the game played a cruel joke on us. We hate disappointing our fans and we apologize for that,” Druckmann said.
