Raphael van Lierop of Studio Hinterland commented on his Twitter account: β€œWe apologize to those who are disappointed that they can no longer play The Long Dark on GeForce Now. NVIDIA didn't ask for our permission to host the game on the platform, so we asked them to remove it. Please address your complaints to them, not to us. Developers need to control how their games are distributed." It is unknown if other developers will follow these examples and require their games to be taken down.

GeForce Now is a cloud-based service that allows users to stream games purchased from third-party sites even on low-end PCs or smartphones. On paper, this only broadens the potential install base for developers, so it's not clear why so many seem to oppose it.

Some might say that players can give their GeForce Now account to others to play their library for free, but that's how all digital stores work. It is possible that publishers and developers feel that having a game on a cloud service may further hinder revenue from porting and selling games on other platforms. Or maybe they want extra royalties from NVIDIA. In any case, it is interesting how events will develop further.
