TikTok issued a statement regarding White House to ban her popular short video sharing app. It says the company was "shocked" by Donald Trump's executive order to ban transactions from its parent company, ByteDance, and that it is ready to defend its rights in court if necessary.
Under this executive order, TikTok could disappear from the US market in 45 days if nothing changes. With TikTok's US audience of around 100 million, this would be a very painful blow for the Chinese video service.
βWe are shocked by the recent executive order that was issued without due process,β the company said in a statement. βWe will use all legal remedies available to us to ensure that the rule of law is not violated and that our company and our users are treated fairly β if not by the administration, then by the US courts.β
The White House justified the issuance of the decree as a βnational emergency regarding information and communication technologies and the service supply chain.β The White House is also concerned that TikTok "automatically collects vast amounts of information from its users, including online activity and other information such as location data, browsing and search history."
In turn, the company emphasized that "TikTok has never shared user data with the Chinese government and has not censored content at its request." She added that it is one of the few social networks that has made its moderation rules and the source code of the algorithm publicly available, and noted that she even offered to sell her US business to an American company.
