Toshiba suffers losses amid negative business performance from Kioxia and declining demand for HDDs

Toshiba Corporation announced its performance indicators for the first half of the 2023 financial year, which was closed on September 30. Revenue for the six months amounted to ¥1,5 trillion ($9,98 billion) versus ¥1,6 trillion a year earlier. Thus, the year-on-year decline was recorded at 6%. However, negative market trends also affected Seagate and Western Digital. During the period under review, the company suffered a net loss of ¥52,14 billion ($347,57 million). For comparison, during the first half of fiscal year 2022, Toshiba showed a net profit of about ¥100,66 billion. If we consider only the second quarter of fiscal year 2023, Toshiba received ¥26,7 billion (approximately $176,77 million) of net losses. For comparison: a year earlier, a net profit of ¥74,77 billion was demonstrated. At the same time, quarterly revenue year-on-year decreased from ¥854,56 billion to ¥793,54 billion, that is, by 7,1%.
