The game takes place in an alternate Tokyo of the forties, where advanced steam technology is used in everything from public transport to residential buildings. The imperial theater is located in the center of the city, where real stars dance and sing, giving people joy and the opportunity to escape from troubles. But when the theater curtain is down, the performers are part of something much bigger. They serve in the "Flower Division", a covert division of the imperial fighting squad, and protect Tokyo with giant mechs controlled by the power of spiritual energy that each of the pilots possesses. The glory days of this team are in the past, and now the Flower Division is in danger of being disbanded.
But ahead of the players waiting for a lot of tests. The player will lead an inexperienced group in the role of captain Seijuro Kamiyama. The headquarters in the face of the imperial theater is in desperate need of money. But even worse, hordes of demons are attacking the city, just at the moment when it is weakened more than ever. It is necessary to rally the team, prove the usefulness of the "Flower Division" by taking part in the combat theater tournament, and also repel the onslaught of demons.
The well-known mangaka Taito Kubo, who designed the appearance of the main characters of Sakura Wars, was involved in the project. Other well-known industry artists who have previously made a great contribution to the development of Japanese action role-playing films, anime and manga also participated in the creation of character designs.
