The video includes cutting scenes in the engine (usually non-game ones - from non-standard angles), which are interspersed with various enthusiastic responses from the press. The first part of the video is dedicated to what is happening on Earth, and the second - in the alien world, Xena. For example, PC Gamer called the game the best way to survive the Black Mesa incident, and the reimagining of the world of Xen was simply a triumph. Eurogamer writes that Black Mesa is a breathtaking mix of old and reimagined.

The IGN staff thinks the results were definitely worth the wait. Kotaku called the remake an impressive achievement. Destructoid wrote: "A wonderful tribute to one of the greatest video games ever made." Polygon: β€œLooks and plays phenomenally.” Vice: "She's here, she's real, and she's everything I wanted her to be." Rock, Paper, Shotgun: "Black Mesa feels very alive and inviting."
