TrendForce: Global Notebook Shipments Up 12% QoQ

A recent TrendForce study showed that global laptop shipments grew 2019% in Q12,1 41,5 compared to the previous quarter. According to analysts, XNUMX million laptops were sold worldwide during the reporting period.

The report states that several factors contributed to the increase in shipments. First of all, we are talking about the fact that manufacturers have begun to replace Intel processors, the shortage of which has been felt for a long time, with AMD chips. An important role was played by the concerns of large companies associated with the ongoing US-China trade war, which led to an increase in product inventories. There is also an increase in demand for Chromebooks in tenders for the purchase of portable solutions.

HP remains the largest supplier of laptops, which managed to reach a new maximum of shipments in one month. In addition, Lenovo managed to bypass Dell, which allowed the Chinese company to rise to second place in the ranking of global suppliers.

A TrendForce report found that the North American market accounts for a third of global laptop demand. In June, total shipments of HP laptops reached 4,4 million units. Such an impressive result influenced the fact that in the second quarter the company shipped 10,3 million laptops. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, there is an increase of 11%.

In second place is Lenovo, whose quarterly shipments of laptops stopped at around 9 million units. Compared to the previous quarter, there is an increase of 34,2%. One of the factors behind this growth is the winning tender in the North American market for the supply of 2 million Chromebooks. Thanks to this, Lenovo sets a personal record for quarterly shipments.

Dell closes the top three, shipping 7 million laptops in the second quarter. Despite growing demand in the European region, Dell laptop shipments fell 8,8% compared to the previous quarter.

TrendForce analysts believe that demand for Chromebooks will remain strong in the third quarter as the start of the school year approaches. There will also be a number of exciting new devices on the market, including Apple's 16-inch MacBook, Dell's 16:10 aspect ratio products, and a variety of gaming laptops that are growing in popularity. TrendForce experts predict an increase in global laptop sales in the third quarter of 2019 to 43 million units.
