Taxi prices in Russia may rise by 20% due to Yandex

Russian company Yandex seeks to monopolize its share in the online taxi ordering services market. The last major deal in the direction of consolidation was purchase of the company "Vezot". Maxim Zhavoronkov, head of rival operator Gett, believes that such aspirations could lead to a rise in the price of taxi services by 20%.

This point of view was expressed by the CEO of Gett at the International Eurasian Taxi Forum. Zhavoronkov notes that if the Federal Antimonopoly Service approves the deal to take over Vezet by Yandex, the latter will receive monopoly leverage over taxi prices.

According to Maxim Zhavoronkov's forecasts, after the completion of the consolidation of Yandex, Lucky and Uber, taxi prices may rise on average by up to 20%, and the commission for drivers by 5–10%.

Recall that the online service "Lucky" was launched in 2017. In a short time, the operator managed to occupy 12,3% of the taxi market, according to the analytical center under the Government of Russia for 2017. Having gained control of another large company, Yandex can increase its share to 22-23% - such a forecast is given by Karen Kazaryan, a leading analyst at RAEC.

Earlier, in February 2018, a deal was made to combine services "Yandex.Taxi" and Uber. Thus, the share of these two services in the taxi market in Moscow amounted to 68,1% (data from the Department of Transport).
