TSMC Starts 2nm Process Development

Earlier this year, it was reported that TSMC was investing heavily in the transition to 5nm chip production. The next step should be the development of the 3-nm process technology, however, it became known that the company has already begun the development of 2-nm lithography.

TSMC Starts 2nm Process Development

There are no details yet, but it is clear that 2nm chips will be much less energy-consuming and more productive. The company currently produces 7nm chips and is gradually increasing production of 5nm products: sources say that in the second half of the year TSMC will begin mass production 5nm ARM processors for Apple and Huawei.

The timing of the introduction of the 2nm process technology is still unknown, so we will only note that the production of 3nm chips is expected to begin only in 2022.
