“The board found that the necessary administrative and technical measures required by law to prevent such a data privacy violation were not taken and fined Facebook 1,15 million Turkish lira for failure to fulfill its data protection obligations,” KVKK said.

The KVKK board is reported to have started reviewing the personal data leak incident after Facebook failed to inform it about bugs in some of its apps. For the fact that the social network did not inform the authorities and the board about the violation of data confidentiality, an additional fine of 450 Turkish liras was imposed on it. It is also known that the violation occurred last year.

Previously, KVKK fined Facebook 1,65 million Turkish liras for another incident related to violation of the confidentiality of user personal data.
