Speaking at the presentation of the first Turkish car in a technology center in the city of Gebze, Bursa province, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that Turkey is not only trying to sell the car domestically, but also wants to arrange deliveries abroad, starting from Europe.

“We are all together witnessing how Turkey's 60-year-old dream has become a reality,” Erdogan said. “When we see this car on the roads around the world, we will achieve our goal.”

At the presentation, prototypes of a sedan and an electric crossover produced by the TOGG consortium were demonstrated. Erdogan personally tested the new car.

According to a presidential decision published in the Official Gazette, the new project, launched in October, will receive state support in the form of tax incentives. As part of the project, the TOGG brand will set up production facilities at a car hub in Bursa in northwestern Turkey. In total it is supposed to let out 5 models. The government guarantees the purchase of 30 electric vehicles by 2035.

The consortium, called the Turkish Automobile Initiative Group (TOGG), was established in mid-2018 by five companies including Anadolu Group, BMC, Kok Group, mobile operator Turkcell, and Zorlu Holding, the parent company of television manufacturer Vestel.

Turkey is a major supplier of cars to Europe, produced in the country by companies such as Ford, Fiat Chrysler, Renault, Toyota and Hyundai.
