Under the new policy, the company will require users to delete tweets that deny “expert advice” on fighting the coronavirus, promote “fake or ineffective treatments” or present “misleading content” on behalf of experts or authorities.

The new rules cover a wide range of different forms of misinformation that began spreading on Twitter during the coronavirus outbreak. Among other things, the new policy addresses various types of misleading tweets, such as “COVID-19 is not dangerous for children” or “social distancing is not effective.” Administrators will remove "specific and unverified statements that incite people to action and contribute to the spread of panic, social unrest or large-scale unrest." Another category of prohibited posts will be tweets that make “specific and unverified claims made by people purporting to be officials, officials, or representatives of health care organizations.”

A Twitter spokesperson clarified that at this time, netizens cannot report fake coronavirus-related content. Twitter partners with third parties to find this type of content. In addition, algorithms based on machine learning technologies are used to search for fake news.
