Twitter continues to crack down on fake news

With presidential and government elections expected around the world this year, social networks are preparing for an increase in the amount of fake news, as well as an increase in information that misleads users. Representatives of Twitter announced that network users will now be able to directly report such content using a new tool.

The feature, called β€œThis Election Misconception,” will launch in India on April 25 and will be available to users in the European region from April 29. The option will appear next to existing options for interacting with user tweets. By selecting this option, the user will mark the content as problematic and will be able to provide additional information if necessary. Later the innovation will be distributed throughout the world.

Company representatives say that the introduction of the new option should reduce the number of fake news. It is also noted that Twitter users are not allowed to manipulate public opinion or in any way influence elections through the social network. Problematic content includes, among other things, misleading information about people participating in elections. The company says this small change is important because users will be able to directly report fake news. This approach will allow Twitter to evaluate how the platform is used during election-related campaigns.
