Twitter is testing a new "Rethink Response" feature

Unfortunately, this is not the ability to edit already sent tweets, which many users of the service have been asking for for years. Twitter is experimenting with a new feature that will allow you to pause for a second and think about what you've written before posting.

This will reduce the degree of passion in the comments, which often occur on the expanses of the social media platform.

“When passions run high, you can voice things that you really didn’t want to say,” they say Twitter developers. We want to give you the opportunity to rethink your answer. We're currently testing a new feature on iOS that allows you to edit a response before it's posted if it uses inappropriate language."

According to PCMag, which contacted the company for clarification, only a small group of English-speaking users take part in this experiment. To determine potentially offensive language in responses, Twitter will use a database of messages that, following user complaints, were found by the platform to be "offensive or rude." Next, an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm will come into play, which, when the user writes answers or messages, will display hints and indicate inappropriate vocabulary.

A similar feature has been introduced Instagram platform back in December last year. The social network began using AI algorithms to identify potentially offensive content even before it was published.

Twitter notes that the results of the experiment will become clear whether it is worth introducing the "Rethink the answer" feature for all users of the platform.

Earlier, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey (Jack Dorsey) reacted negatively to the idea of introducing the post-factum post editing function. In his opinion, users will abuse this feature. In this case, the function will allow you to edit messages that by this time will have already collected thousands of retweets.

“We considered a 30 second or minute window for editing. But at the same time, that would mean a delay in sending the tweet,” Dorsey told Wired in January.
