Twitter removes support for geotags because no one uses them

Social networking site Twitter will prevent users from adding precise geotags to their posts as the feature is in low demand. Twitter support has announced in an official post that the feature is being removed to make it easier to manage tweets. However, the ability to mark the exact location of published photos will remain. According to online sources, users will be able to add geotags to tweets through integration with mapping services like FourSquare or Yelp.

Twitter removes support for geotags because no one uses them

It is worth noting that in 2009, when Twitter introduced support for geotagging, the company believed that this feature had a great future. As conceived by the developers, users had to follow not only the publications of the people they follow, but also the messages that appear depending on the location. As a result, it turned out that to track any events, it is more convenient for users to use hashtags or create separate topics. However, continued support for an unpopular feature could expose the privacy of users who may have used geotagging inadvertently.

Ultimately, the developers came to the decision that it was necessary to stop supporting the unpopular feature, as this would simplify the process of user interaction with the social network. It is not known what else the developers are currently working on. Perhaps, after the disappearance of unpopular functions from Twitter, the social network will receive some useful tools that will meet with the approval of the audience.
