The author of cdrtools has died

After a long illness (oncology) at the age of 66, Jörg Schilling, who actively contributed to the development of open source software and open standards, died. Jörg's most famous projects were Cdrtools, a set of utilities for writing data to CD/DVD, and star, the first open source implementation of the tar utility, released in 1982. Jörg also contributed to the POSIX standards and was involved in the development of OpenSolaris and the Schillix distribution.

Jörg's projects also include smake (implementation of the make utility), bosh (fork of bash), SING (fork of autoconf), sccs (fork of SCCS), shims (universal OS-independent API), ved (visual editor), libfind ( a library with find utility functionality), libxtermcap (an extension of the termcap library), and libscg (a driver and library for SCSI devices).
