A new world record for data transmission speed in fiber optics has been set

The Japanese National Institute of Information and Communication Technology NICT has long been engaged in improving communication systems and has repeatedly set records. For the first time, Japanese scientists managed to achieve a data transfer rate of 1 Pbps back in 2015. Four years have passed from creating the first prototype to testing an already working system with all the necessary strapping, and still, this technology is still far from being mass-produced. Nevertheless, NICT does not stop there - the other day it was announced that a new speed record for fiber was set. This time, scientists from the Extremely Advanced Optical Transmission Technologies group managed to break the bar of 10 Pbps for just one fiber. Read more on ServerNews β†’
