A new record for data transfer speed in Russian LTE networks has been set

MegaFon has announced that it has achieved a new data transfer rate record in the fourth generation commercial mobile network (4G/LTE).

The experiment was conducted jointly with Qualcomm Technologies and Nokia. The bandwidth of the communication channel has reached 1,6 Gbps!

To achieve the record, Nokia base station equipment based on the new generation of the AirScale system module in MegaFon frequency spectrum configuration was used: LTE 2600 2Γ—20 MHz (MIMO 4Γ—4) + LTE 1800 1Γ—20 MHz (MIMO 4Γ—4) + LTE 2100 1Γ—15 MHz (MIMO 4Γ—4) + LTE 1800 1Γ—10 MHz (MIMO 4Γ—4).

A test mobile device in the form factor of a smartphone based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform was used as a user terminal. The device was equipped with a Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, an integrated RF transceiver and front end radio modules, providing in this case support for aggregation of five carrier components and 20 streams.

β€œA Gigabit LTE connection (Gigabit LTE) is not just about maximum speed, but also a large network bandwidth, which makes it useful for all network users, and not just for those using smartphones that support Gigabit LTE. A mobile device with support for a gigabit LTE connection is able to complete mobile Internet sessions much faster, thereby freeing up network resources for other users,” MegaFon notes.

It is expected that the deployment of advanced LTE services will accelerate the construction of 5G networks on a non-autonomous architecture. The bandwidth of such systems will be several gigabits per second.
