By the end of this year, solid-state drives (SSD) with PCIe interface can be equal in terms of supply with flash solutions using the SATA interface.
Declining prices for NAND memory chips are driving the global SSD market further. According to DigiTimes, citing industry sources, this year's SSD shipments could increase by 20-25% compared to 2018, when sales amounted to approximately 200 million units.
PCIe devices provide significantly higher performance than SATA products. PCIe SSDs are predicted to account for 50% of total SSD shipments this year.
It is also noted that the cost of PCIe SSD drives with a capacity of 512 GB in the first quarter of this year decreased by an average of 2018% compared to the last quarter of 11. For SATA solutions of the same capacity, the price drop was about 9%.
For the money for which 512 GB models are now offered, 256 GB solid state drives were available a year ago.
Market participants believe that in the future, PCIe SSD devices will continue to crowd out models with a SATA interface in the market.
