Leak Confirms Ryzen Embedded V1000 Use in GPD Win 2 Max Handheld Console

Earlier this month, rumors surfaced that GPD was planning to release a new, more powerful version of its GPD Win 2 laptop/handheld gaming console hybrid. Now, those rumors have been confirmed as photos of the new device, called the Win 2 Max, have surfaced online.

Previously, GPD used only low-power Intel processors of the Celeron, Core-M and Core-Y families in its computers. Now there will be a hybrid laptop and portable console based on a certain Ryzen Embedded V1000 series processor. Unfortunately, the specific processor model is not specified, but in any case, it should offer much higher performance than the Intel Core m3-7Y30 used in the standard version of GPD Win 2.

Despite the fact that the processor model is not specified, it must definitely be the chip with the lowest TDP. And according to this criterion, only the dual-core Ryzen Embedded V1202B and the quad-core Ryzen Embedded V1605B are suitable. Both processors support simultaneous multi-threading (SMT), and their TDP level can be adjusted by the device manufacturer between 12 and 25 watts. Note that the younger chip is equipped with Vega 3 graphics, while the older model has a much more powerful Vega 8. Therefore, we would like to believe that we will still see a more powerful processor in GPD Win 2 Max.

Also, according to the published photos, it can be seen that the laptop console has an HDMI video output, a pair of USB Type-A ports (version unknown) and one Type-C (probably for charging), as well as a microSD slot and a 3,5 mm audio jack. There is also an M.2 slot for an SSD, probably with NVMe support. And the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module is also visible.

The RAM seems to be located on the other side of the circuit board, and therefore there are no details about it. But RAM will be one of the most important components of Win 2 Max. If the GPD suddenly decided to use single-channel memory, this would not have the best effect on the performance of the processor's integrated graphics. Therefore, let's hope that the new product will use dual-channel memory.

Unfortunately, the cost, as well as the release time of the hybrid laptop and GPD Win 2 Max console, have not yet been specified. Perhaps, due to the use of a chip from AMD, the manufacturer will be able to reduce the cost of the device.
