Windows 10 Disk Cleanup utility will no longer delete important files

The Disk Cleanup utility has been part of all versions of Windows and is a useful tool integrated into the OS. With its help, you can delete temporary files, old and cached data without resorting to manual cleaning or third-party programs. However, Windows 10 has a more modern version called Storage Sense, which solves the same problem more flexibly. She complemented Disk Cleanup.

Windows 10 Disk Cleanup utility will no longer delete important files

Storage Sense appeared in build 1809, but the utility has undergone some important changes in the current Insider version of the operating system. The fact is that the previous version of Storage Sense could delete files from the Downloads folder. In assembly number 19018, it became possible to disable the cleaning of the Downloads folder at the request of the user, which is selected in the default settings.

The changelog entry confirms this. And although at first glance this is a minor improvement, it is encouraging that the company from Redmond is trying to take into account the wishes of users. Hopefully, the corporation will do the same with other requests. For example, I would like to see updates for Explorer.

Note that the next update, codenamed 19H2, will begin shipping to consumers on November 12, and the patch, codenamed 20H1, will be available early next year.
