There have been rumors about Apple's project to create its own car called Project Titan for a long time, but the Cupertino company has never confirmed the existence of such intentions.
Rumors have hinted at the possibility of Apple using its vast resources to quickly move into the market by purchasing a car manufacturer instead of building a vehicle entirely from scratch itself. According to a recent television interview, Apple appears to be making an attempt to do just that.
In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Roth Capital Partners analyst Craig Irwin said Apple made a "serious bid" for Tesla around 2013, with an offer believed to be in the region of $240 per share. It is unclear how far the purported negotiations have progressed or whether they have reached the “formal paperwork stage” confirming the intent to purchase.
Apple's intention to buy Tesla was previously reported. For example, in 2015, Jason Calacanis, an American Internet entrepreneur, blogger and former general manager of Netscape.com, that Apple will try to acquire the electric vehicle maker within the next 18 months. The transaction amount, in his opinion, could be up to $75 billion.
