It is reported that in 2019 the global baseband industry showed a three percent decline. As a result, its volume at the end of last year amounted to approximately $20,9 billion.

The biggest market players are Qualcomm, Huawei HiSilicon, Intel, MediaTek and Samsung LSI. Thus, Qualcomm accounted for about 41% of the total revenue. HiSilicon controls approximately 16% of the industry, while Intel controls 14%.

Strategy Analytics notes that 5G products accounted for almost 2% of total unit baseband processor shipments. In monetary terms, 5G solutions accounted for 8% of the market. That is, they are still significantly more expensive than similar chips for previous generations of mobile networks.
