Strategy Analytics has assessed the balance of power in the global market for baseband processors - chips that are responsible for communication in mobile devices.
It is reported that in 2019 the global baseband industry showed a three percent decline. As a result, its volume at the end of last year amounted to approximately $20,9 billion.
The biggest market players are Qualcomm, Huawei HiSilicon, Intel, MediaTek and Samsung LSI. Thus, Qualcomm accounted for about 41% of the total revenue. HiSilicon controls approximately 16% of the industry, while Intel controls 14%.
Strategy Analytics notes that 5G products accounted for almost 2% of total unit baseband processor shipments. In monetary terms, 5G solutions accounted for 8% of the market. That is, they are still significantly more expensive than similar chips for previous generations of mobile networks.
The largest manufacturers of XNUMXG mobile baseband processors are Huawei HiSilicon, Qualcomm and Samsung LSI.
This year, as expected, the share of 5G products in the total mass of baseband processors will increase significantly. True, the market as a whole will be negatively affected, according to experts, by the ongoing spread of the coronavirus. In particular, there is already a significant reduction in demand for smartphones around the world, and in the future the situation can only get worse.
