Amsterdam to ban diesel and petrol cars in 11 years

There is no doubt about the complete transition to zero-emission cars, but it is one thing to talk about some uncertain future, and another when a particular city names the exact dates for the disappearance of vehicles with internal combustion engines from its streets. One of these cities was the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam.

Recently, the authorities of Amsterdam announced that from 2030 the movement of cars with engines running on diesel fuel and gasoline will be prohibited in the city. The metropolis intends to reach the goal in stages, and the first stage will be implemented next year, when access to the streets of the city will be closed for diesel cars manufactured before 2005.

The second stage involves the introduction of a ban on the movement of polluting buses in the center of the capital from 2022, and in another three years it will be impossible to ride a moped or pleasure boat with an internal combustion engine in Amsterdam.

It should be noted that already now many residents and guests of the Dutch capital use bicycles to move around the city. However, according to representatives of the local health system, there are still too many vehicles on the roads and waterways, poisoning the air with their emissions and thereby reducing the duration and quality of life of citizens.

As an alternative to cars with gasoline and diesel engines, it is proposed to use cars powered by electric traction and hydrogen fuel from 2030. However, to implement this program, local authorities will have to "fork out" to install more than 23 charging stations for electric vehicles, independent experts say. Now in Amsterdam, the number of car β€œcharges” is only about 000. In addition, electric cars and other types of environmentally friendly vehicles are more expensive than analogues on gasoline and diesel fuel, and some residents may not be able to afford it.
