Google will disable Flash in Chrome 76, but not completely yet

Chrome 76 is expected to be released in July, in which Google intends to stop Flash support by default. So far there is no talk of complete removal, but the corresponding change has already been added to the experimental Canary branch.

It is reported that in this version Flash can still be returned in the settings “Advanced > Privacy and Security > Site Properties,” but this will work until the release of Chrome 87, expected in December 2020. Also, this function will be active only until the browser is restarted. After closing and opening, you will have to confirm content playback again for each site.

The complete removal of Flash support is expected in 2020. This will be in sync with Adobe's previously announced plan to stop supporting the technology. At the same time, disabling the Adobe Flash plugin in Firefox takes place already in the fall of this year. Specifically, we are talking about version 69, which will be available in September. Firefox ESR branches will continue to support Flash until the end of 2020. At the same time, in regular builds it will be possible to force Flash to be activated via about:config.

So it won't be long before all the major browsers abandon the legacy technology, although to be fair Flash had its advantages. If the developers had closed the “holes” in time and fixed the problems, many would probably still use it today.

We also note that abandoning Flash will “kill” numerous sites with online games, which some may not like.
