Added HTTPS-only setting to Chrome

Following the change to using HTTPS by default in the address bar, a setting has been added to the Chrome browser that allows you to force the use of HTTPS for all access to sites, including following direct links. When the new mode is activated, when you try to open a page using “http://”, the browser will automatically try to open the resource using “https://” first, and if the attempt fails, it will display a warning prompting you to open the site without encryption. Last year, similar functionality was added to Firefox 83.

To activate the new feature in Chrome, you need to set the “chrome://flags/#https-only-mode-setting” flag, after which the “Always use secure connections” switch will appear in the settings in the “Settings > Privacy and Security > Security” section. The required functionality has been added to the Chrome Canary experimental branch and is available starting with build 93.0.4558.0.
